Located in the Historic Highland district of Albuquerque, Capoeira Pegadas brings the standards of the United Capoeira Association to New Mexico.
Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that was eveloped in the 1600's by slaves in Brazil as a way to free themselves from oppression. It combines music, dance acrobatics and self-defense as well as spiritual aspects. Capoeira is a well rounded martial art in which students learn about the history , the Portuguese language, music, movement and self-control.
Sadly the Pegadas Academy closed its doors at the end of December 2007. Classes are still going on at UNM though.
